I was to be there from April 1st to August 30th, 1987. So it means 4 months in total. My position was Deputy prophylactics commander of the 30-kilometer-zone. So, me and my subordinates working there were responsible for the fire safety of all the objects within the mentioned zone. It all began from the station. In the morning everybody was brought to the station, and then our units went to examine the objects under reconstruction. My main responsibility was the reconstruction of the 3rd power plant which was being prepared for launch. The desactivation, the launch of the equipment and its restoration, replacement of the roof… So, there was plenty of work to do. The insulation of the 4thpower plant by the way. So it was the wall – the sseparation between the 3rd and the 4th power plant, the construction of the sarcophagus, which is now being reconstructed. We literally had to go around all such objects and to check them every day. After those inspections we had meetings with the station management, with the construction companies working there. Where needed, we issued orders to address the weaknesses. Generally, we took all precautions to do it without fires and other accidents. Actually, we did manage to do that – there were no fires at the station.
